#CraftBlogClub June Challenge ~ You Complete Me

This months challenge set by Emma over at Frugally Peachy is 'You Complete Me'. Basically to complete a project that has been on your to-do list for a while!
I have decided to finish off my Son's patchwork blanket which I started over a year ago!

If you read my last post on crochet, you will know I am a little obsessed with Attic 24's blog. So, when I saw this post of her granny square blanket with a gorgeous border I decided to add a border to my sons blanket.
Lucy (Attic 24) showed a picture of the before and after blankets side by side to show the difference a border can make to a blanket:

I can't believe how much better it looks with a border, it really finishes it off.

I don't have a before picture showing the whole blanket lay out, but here it is and you can see the edge with no border:

Here it is hanging on the washing line with its first row of white finished:

I was so nervous about putting it in the washing machine , convinced it would fall apart but it was fine and looks lovely and fresh now!

Here it is now with two rows of white and a row of baby blue:

I think it is finished, just trying to decide if it needs a row of royal blue too? What do you think?

Really happy to have finished this project and am now inspired to add a wider border to my Daughters blanket too! Remember to check out what other projects have been completed over on Emma's blog.

Crochet ~ The start of the addiction

I am currently back into crochet, I lost my way with it a bit after making granny squares for the combined blanket with our 'Knit & Stitch' group - read full post here. I wanted to make a blanket for myself and although the Granny squares are great, its a lot of effort afterwards to sew them together and ALL those ends need weaving in! So, I looked to Pinterest for inspiration (of course) and came across Attic24's blog, I have heard of it before but never really looked at it, now I am slightly obsessed with it!

I love Lucy's home, I'm not usually one for lots of colour but love the relaxed cosy look she has achieved:

Lucy's blog is full of tutorials for crochet cushions, blankets, bunting you name it! So, I'm thinking of having a go but maybe in more muted colours.

My first project is a Granny stripe blanket, see here for Lucy's tutorial. Here is her finished blanket with a lovely edging:

And here is mine so far:

I have ordered double knit yarn from wool warehouse in white, blues and greys so will see how it turns out. Wish me luck :)

I am starting to gather future project inspiration onto my pinterest board:

Lampshade Workshop

Morning all, on Saturday I went to a lampshade making workshop and loved it! What's not to love about a childfree couple of hours, learning a new craft, meeting lovely ladies and lots of cake!!

The workshops are organised by Alison and Susie at Marvellous who run really great craft workshops for little ones and birthday parties in their gorgeous bell tent! This was their first grown up workshop and was a great success, I will definitely be looking out for the next one!

This workshop was run by Rachel at Lovely Little Lamp who makes and sells really fab lampshades through her folksy shop.

I thought I would share a few pictures from the day:

A well organised table full of supplies (and sweets!) to greet us:

And here we all are with our new lampshades:

I'm really chuffed with my new lampshade, here it is in-situ in the Children's red, blue and white bedroom:

Some of the ladies added pompom trims onto their lampshades. I couldn't decide so brought the trim home with me and pegged it into place to see what its looks like, but still can't decide - what do you think?
